What To Eat Before You Workout?

A common question clients ask me is “What should I eat before I workout with you?“. Everyone is different in terms of how they digest food and what feels comfortable in their stomach, but I always tell my clients not to train with me on an empty stomach! You need fuel to lift weights.

I can always tell when a client has not had something to eat because a half an hour into their session they have lost their steam and concentration!

A snack is a must before working out, unless it is first thing in the morning and you want to do cardio on an empty stomach. Keep in mind that if your stomach is sensitive you might want to eat up to an hour before working out.

Some Foods To Have Prior To Working Out

  • Banana
  • Almond Butter and Apple
  • Non Fat Greek Yogurt with 1/2 Banana
  • Handful of Almonds
  • Grilled Chicken Strips

If you know you are exercising that day pack a snack with you to have handy before your work out. If you are rushing from work and need to stop in a store and quickly pick something up I recommend a protein bar (look for one high in protein and low in sugar and carbs), protein shake, or a small container cottage cheese.

Also as a reminder do not forget your protein post workout!

You have broken down your muscles during your training workout so it is important to build them back up. Make sure to get your protein within an hour of your workout! For any questions, send me a message!
