The trials and tribulations of eating well!

I was going to write a blog on eating greens but then it occurred to me that I should write this article about me and my own personal battle with food. I think that is important for our readers to know that food issues has to everyone, even to someone like myself who is a personal trainer in the health industry! I have had clients in the past who have said to me -“you must not eat any sugar or drink any alcohol”. I am human and yes slip occasionally and eat sweets or too much bread. I have grained control of what once was a horrible sweet addiction. When I was young I used sweets to replace real meals. I would starve myself and chew on candy. I didn’t realize that this was doing absolutely nothing for me -it was actually harming me! I wish I knew then what I know now.

Now I know that takes up to two weeks for sugar to leave your system. Occasionally I slip but that is when you need to stop and refocus. It is important to redefine your goals. That is what I did over this weekend. I set a time goal for December and to be in even better shape by January.

Finding a goal is important -keep it small and if it is a time goal, give yourself enough but not too much time! I think a month is reasonable to start with

From there I went grocery shopping. I bought groceries for the week and so began my clean eating for the week. My list of groceries included:

  • Organic eggs
  • Almond butter
  • Smart whole grain bagels (100 calories)
  • Asparagus
  • Chicken
  • Low carb wraps
  • Turkey
  • Banana
  • Frozen rasberries
  • Vanilla protein
  • I looked at my schedule for the day and planned my meals accordingly. I look at my schedule every night, before I go to bed, to see where I have breaks in the day, then I plan my meals for the next day. I pack the same breakfast and sometimes alternate my 11 am snack. For instance yesterday I had 5 egg whites and today I’ll have 5 0z. Chicken and asparagus. I try to make my lunch, but sometimes I have to eat out. If I’m eating out, I usually think ahead of time where I am going to eat, so I can make healthy lunch decisions.

The key to success is planning and taking the time step

It makes the world of difference. Whatever you do, do not starve yourself! Stay focused and please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns!
