How Can You Have A Social Life & Still Be Healthy
One of the hardest things to do while on a program is maintain a social life. When you are focusing on your workouts and eating clean, it is extremely difficult to break that routine and have a girl’s night out. So what do you do? Do you forget you have friends and stay home every night? Well, we know that’s not possible OR good for you. Everyone needs to cut loose and have some fun every now and then. It doesn’t mean you have to ruin all the hard work you have been putting in.
Don’t panic! When you know you have an evening of food and drinks coming up, plan ahead. Be especially good that day. Workout as you usual and try to eat as healthful as you can. NEVER go out hungry!! That is the most important thing to remember. If you starve yourself all day because you know you will be consuming more that evening, you are headed for disaster.
By eating as usual, you will avoid the cravings crash and be able to control yourself when temptations arise
Once you are out, you need to be smart. If you are in a restaurant, you can make a healthy decision, but the parties are the ones that always get us into trouble. Food spread out everywhere you turn… lots of little fattening treats everywhere you look. Once again, DON’T PANIC!! Have a taste here and there and stay away from anything fried or covered in sauce. Taste a small dessert, but limit it to A TASTE.
The trickiest part for myself and a lot of people I know is alcohol. It is very easy to get caught up and have one too many. This is where self discipline comes in.
Limit yourself to 2 cocktails and stay away from fruity, mixed drinks
These drinks are LOADED with calories and sugar. Wine is usually a good choice since it can be sipped and savored. Or, you can go the route of drinking something that you know you won’t gulp down, such as a martini. Drinking vodka with a splash of soda water is a great choice as well. Just don’t have more than 2 and don’t forget to drink lots of water throughout the evening.
All in all, you just have to use your head and have some willpower. Why put in all that hard work just to sabotage your efforts? Think of how badly you will feel the next day if you drink too much and go on a food binge. It just isn’t worth it… Well maybe once and a while.
