Turning 40 & Exercising – Fitness Workout Advice To Make A Succesfull Transition
Well ladies, it has happened… I turned 40 a few weeks ago and although this should be an easy transition for a modern woman such as myself, I am finding it to be challenging in many ways. In my mind and soul, I still feel like the twenty-something that I was just moments ago. My body, on the other hand, has another set of rules.
The first thing I noticed were the changes in my skin. Oh my God!! I must say this was a little upsetting. All the hard work you put into yourself over the years and there are some things you just can’t change. You can help them along, but you just can’t change them. Then there is gravity!! Equally as upsetting, but for some reason not as tragic.
It is true that it is much harder to maintain fitness after 35 and into your 40s. It just takes more discipline and hard work than in you 20s
On the positive side, you are much more focused and settled in the latter years that it is not as hard to stay in line. The good news is (and there is good news!!) is that diet and exercise can be quite helpful, transforming even.
By eating a nutrient dense diet you can lose fat and put on lean muscle mass and change the shape of your body, filling out the the looser, saggier areas of skin. Also, by omitting processed -refined foods can give your skin an extra glow that sugars, salt and chemicals tend to dull and dry out. Just be smart and consistent! Try and do something active everyday with a day off here and there for recovery. Make sure you get 2-3 days of strength training in so you can gain and maintain muscle mass, something we start losing as early as age 30.
And don’t neglect your cardio! Get some sort of aerobic activity in on the other days. This is great for your heart and your endurance. The fat loss and boundless energy are extra perks. With a good attitude and a little determination you can look and feel better than you did in your 20s!! All it takes is a little heart and a little help from us.
