Healthy eating guidelines

Know what you are eating and why. Learn a few healthy eating tips:

  • Plan out your meals for the day
  • Do not let yourself get ravenous
  • Eat every 3 hours
  • Read Food Labels
  • Watch your caloric intake
  • Remember you are fueling your body for energy

The key to achieving a healthy weight is to be aware of the food choices you are making. It is important to be aware of when your body needs to be fueled. For instance my body needs food every two and half hours. They key word here is fuel.

The goal is to fuel your body not eat for pleasure. Of course on the occasion there is nothing like going out and treating yourself to that juicy steak and fries -but remember on a daily basis we are eating to keep our blood sugars at a consistent level.

Also do not let yourself get to the point of such hunger that you are not even aware of what it is you are eating. I have in the past allowed myself to get so hungry that I am near tears and then inhale my food that I do not even remember what it is I have just eaten! Tasting your food and appreciating what you are eating is important. Chew your food, enjoy each bite!

Most importantly remember to eat 3 healthy meals throughout the day with snacks in between and of course plenty of water. This way we can not play games with ourselves. If you have had a bad day, or you are overtired, do not use food as your comfort.

Stay on track do not let your mind play games with you! If you find that you have slipped and eaten everything in sight-move forward! Do not beat yourself up about this and then continue on this self-sabotaging way of eating. Most of us have been there before! Sometimes we can not control what happens to us in life or how our day is going to go, BUT the one thing we can control is exactly what we eat! So embrace that control and be good to yourself!
